Spectacular Space in Silver Spring

The dramatic conversion of small rooms into open, light and useful areas is abundant in the interior places used by an active family of dogs, teenagers, and sports-minded adults.
For instance, a tiny attic space that once stored a few dusty fishing rods now provides an upstairs study/outlook where three – or more - family members share a spacious office. The small original kitchen was not much larger than the island area where the two daughters now study side by side. They laugh that one of them is sitting at the edge of the old house and the other girl is “sitting in the site of the outdoor shed, before Klockner pushed out the exterior walls.” The large, southern style porch, with its carefully crafted pillars and doors allows man or dog a cool place to rest on a summer day. The porch is accessible through a new music & media room, where you can play your guitar, the piano, or enjoy reading, and admire the detailing in the new bookcases. Above the porch, bedrooms are pushed out onto the original roof line, a feat requiring demolition, shoring, and new supports for key structural elements of the building.
